Junior State Championships

The 2019 Junior State Championships will be held in Bundaberg.

Six regions will compete over three days, across six divisions (Boys and Girls U12/14/16s) in their quest to be crowned Champion Region.   

Teams should expect to play from midday on Friday, a full day on Saturday and finals on Sunday morning.   

Event Information 

Location: Bundaberg Touch Association, Greg Duncan Fields, Isis Highway & University Drive, Bundaberg QLD 

Date: 23-25 August 2019 

Who: Junior Regional Teams – U12, U14, U16 Boys and Girls Divisions.   

Entry Fees: $700 (incl GST) per team to be paid to the QTF office by the Regional Administrator by Thursday 18 July 2019.

Times*: Friday 12pm-6.30pm
Saturday 8am-6.30pm
Sunday 8am-12pm (finals)

*Please note times are subject to change and should be used only as a guide.  


  • Team registrations must be completed online by the Regional Administrator.
  • During this process, the Regional Administrator must also include the relevant details for the nominated qualified referees, note: your team will not be accepted until your referees’ details have been completed. It is a requirement for the Junior State Champions that all teams must nominate the following number of referees per team: 
    • Under 12s Divisions – Must be a Level 2+ (1 Referee per Team) 
    • Under 14s Divisions – Must be a Level 2+ (1.5 Referee per Team) 
    • Under 16s Division – Must be a Level 3+ (1.5 Referee per Team) 
  • After the teams have been nominated by the regional manager, team codes will be sent out for individual players to register to the team.

Participant Grant Assistance Available

Both Federal and State Government provide grant opportunities of which the 2019 Junior State Championships is eligible.

Young Athletes Travel Subsidy

The Young Athletes Travel Subsidy (YATS) aims to foster the development of young athletes and officials to support elite athlete/official pathways by providing financial assistance to help alleviate the costs associated with attending championship events. The travel subsidy provides financial assistance through three event tiers and supports attendance at specific state, national and international events.

Athletes and Officials (such as coaches, referees and scorers) participating at eligible events can apply for assistance if they meet the eligibility criteria.

Who is eligible?

Applicants eligible to apply for support after attending the event are those who:

  • competed or officiated (as a coach, referee or scorer) at an eligible Queensland state or state school event, Australian national or national school event or international event in the past 6 months
  • have been residents of Queensland for at least 12 months preceding the event
  • were under the age of 18 at the start of the event
  • travelled a road distance of at least 250km (one-way) from their place of residence to the event location (check road distances using RACQ’s trip planner)
  • flew or travelled by rail a radial distance of at least 250km (one-way) from their place of residence to the event location (check radial distances)
  • have participation at the event confirmed by the regional/state/national coach or manager.

Local Sporting Champions

The Local Sporting Champions program provides financial assistance for coaches, officials and competitors aged 12-18 participating in state, national or international championships.
If successful, applicants will receive $500-$750 towards the cost of attending their championships

  • Base Grant: $500
  • Applicants travelling 800km – 1999km to their nominated championships: + $100
  • Applicants travelling internationally or greater than 2000km to their nominated championships: + $200
  • Applicants residing in a rural electorate: + $50

Applications are currently open until 11.59pm (AEST) on 30 June 2019 for Round 1, 2019-20.
