Queensland Touch Football (QTF), the governing body for touch football in the Sunshine State, marks a significant milestone this year as it celebrates its 45th anniversary!

The Queensland Touch Association was established 20 January 1979, when it was agreed to affiliate with the newly formed Australian Touch Association (2 December 1978), now Touch Football Australia.

QTA became incorporated in September 1986 to be formally known as the Queensland Touch Association Incorporated. In 2013, the Queensland Touch Football business name was registered, and the Association formally operates under the QTF banner today.

From its inception, QTF has played a pivotal role in fostering the growth of touch football across the state, not just as a sport but as a community, shaping it into one of the most beloved sports in Queensland.

Serving as the official state body for touch football, QTF has been instrumental in nurturing game development and participation, establishing representative pathways, and organising quality events.  Our aim has always been to create an inclusive culture where everyone has the opportunity to participate and flourish through their touch football experience.

Reflecting on this remarkable journey, Greg Denny, CEO of QTF, remarked, “As we celebrate our 45th year, we are reminded of the shared history, common goals, and unwavering commitment of our touch football community. This milestone is a testament to the trust and unity that binds us together.”

Throughout the years, QTF has witnessed outstanding contributions from individuals who have dedicated themselves to the growth and success of touch football. In 1986, Paul Eggers and Russell Mowles were honoured as the first life members of QTF, recognising their invaluable contributions to the sport.

As QTF commemorates its 45th anniversary, the organisation aims to celebrate not only its achievements but also the rich tapestry of memories and experiences shared by the touch football community. Initiatives are underway to build connections with touch football history and historians, reinforce our values, and re-discover touch football memories and memorabilia.

“We are excited to embark on this journey of reflection and celebration,” said Denny. “Our values of forward-thinking, stronger together, leading with humility, passionately proud, and fostering fun will guide us as we pay tribute to our past heroes, engage in flashbacks, trivia, and other engaging content throughout the year.”

Indeed, as QTF looks ahead to the future, the 45th anniversary serves as a moment of unity, gratitude, and celebration for our vibrant touch football community in Queensland.

We look forward to the touch football community in Queensland joining us on this journey.
