The show must go on, and go on it did. After ongoing weather challenges, it was play on to see who would become the 2024 Queensland State Cup Champions.
The UQ Rebels claimed the 2024 QSC Women’s Premier title with a 1 – 0 victory over BMTA and the Toowoomba Twisters trumped Coolum (6-5) to take out the Mixed Premier comp.
Whilst Redlands were named the 2024 QSC Men’s Premiers, after defeating BMTA 6-2.
This is the side’s first State Cup win and team coach David Maher could not be prouder of the playing group.
“We have trained over the last six months for the Metro and State Cup. We had a rough start to the season, with a few of the boys being injured and things were just not working,” said David.
“So we took a hard look at ourselves, changed a few things and now we have only had one loss in the last six weeks.
“From a club perspective, it is so special that all the hard work through the juniors and into the seniors is starting to pay off.
“We are just ecstatic on how great we played and the end result”,
Another ecstatic coach is Rua Te Amo, who headed the Gold Coast Mixed 20’s team to a thrilling 4 – 3 win over Bundaberg in the Grand Final of the 2024 QSC Mixed 20s.
“Half of the team have been together for the last four years and I think what drove them is that last year they dropped out in the semis, so they wanted to come back and get it again”, said Rua.
“I think the team just took the bull by the horns and if we lost, we lost – we would take it on the chin. But we were fortunate enough to get the win”.
