Queensland Touch Football (QTF) has put in a mighty performance across all playing divisions, resulting in a massive effort to tie the series.

As previous winners of the event New South Wales have retained the shield.

With 2025 marking the 30th anniversary of the SOO series in what’s considered the toughest domestic Touch Football contest in Australia, New South Wales and Queensland reignited their fierce on-field rivalry in eighteen divisions at C.ex Coffs International Stadium, Coffs Harbour, with the result coming down to the last game of the weekend.

Queensland started strong in their quest to wrestle the shield back across the border by winning the opening thirteen of eighteen games, setting them up well to notch up five division victories in the second round of games. Not to be outdone, New South Wales showed why they were reigning champions by wrapping up two divisions of their own, with the vocal crowd of supporters treated to eleven deciders heading into the thrilling final round of games, including all Open divisions.

By Saturday afternoon, Queensland had claimed nine divisions to New South Wales’ five, with one more win set to deliver Queensland the shield for the first time since 2002 and continue a stirring display for the Sunshine State in the sporting world.

However, in a gripping display of Touch Football, New South Wales united to pull off an immense comeback and win four games on the trot – Women’s 45s, Mixed Open, Women’s Open, and Men’s Open – to tie the series 9-9 and retain the coveted SOO shield in the closest finish in Touch Football State of Origin history.

QTF would like to thank all players, coaches, managers, officials, referees, and staff – as well as the team at C.ex Coffs International Stadium – for their efforts in delivering the Touch Football State of Origin series.

The 2025 Touch Football State of Origin series is proudly supported by City of Coffs Harbour.
