With the passing of the Child Safe Organisations Act 2024 (the Act) in Parliament on 11 September 2024, organisations in Queensland are required to comply with Child Safeguarding Laws including alignment with the 10 National Standards and Universal Principle.
As of 1 April 2026, sport organisations that work with children must be able to demonstrate they’re implementing the new Child Safe Standards. This applies to everyone – from small volunteer-run touch football Associations to QTF as your state-level organisation.
It’s not just about meeting legal requirements for your organisation – it’s about making sport a safe and positive space for every child. Everyone has a role in keeping children & young people safe!
To support your organisations in meeting these requirements, QTF will provide a series of online sessions, through which we will assist you to understand the National Principles, and translate these into actions for your association to meet your obligations. We understand that in many areas Tuesday is competition night, but urge committees to make at least one member available to undertake this important work.
