Queensland Touch Football (QTF) has successfully delivered the first Q Youth Academy (QYA) under its refreshed structure, uniting more than 250 emerging players, coaches, and referees from 20–22 February at the Gold Coast Performance Centre, proudly supported by City of Gold Coast.
The event showcased the new, streamlined pathway framework in full for the first time. Rising Stars (U14) represented the four NRL-aligned programs — Broncos, Cowboys, Titans, and the newly welcomed Dolphins — following their selection at the National Youth Championships. The Future Maroons (U16) squads continued the pathway with dedicated performance, leadership, and skill development sessions, reinforcing the progression from youth participation to high‑performance environments.
Young referees aged 14–18 were fully integrated into the weekend, reflecting QTF’s commitment to aligning all roles within the talent pathway. They officiated training scenarios, received real‑time coaching, and engaged in shared learning and testing experiences with both players and coaches.
Across the three days, participants took part in high‑intensity field sessions, workshops on identity, resilience, and performance behaviours, and coach education designed to strengthen the consistency of Queensland’s development systems. The environment fostered connection, professionalism, and a clear sense of shared purpose across all groups.
The successful delivery of the Academy marks an important step in implementing the recommendations from the Talent Pathways Review, supporting a pathway that is more cohesive, inclusive, and easier for participants to navigate. QTF will now continue work on its upcoming performance‑level program aimed at bridging the gap between youth representation and State of Origin.
QTF extends its thanks to City of Gold Coast, the coaches and staff, our referee coaches, the families who support their young athletes, and all participants whose energy and commitment shaped a memorable weekend.
