Queensland Touch Football (QTF) has made the decision to postpone the QLD State of Origin selection camps, to be held on the Gold Coast across two weekends including 28th – 29th March and 4th – 5th April, in light of the COVID-19 outbreak and the COVID-19 community sport guidelines issued to national sporting organisations this afternoon by the Federal Government.
Given the nature of this event, which would bring together a large group of people from across Queensland in close quarters for a significant period of time, it is prudent we postpone all non-essential gatherings in an effort to reduce the spread of the virus.
QTF has also taken into consideration the financial burden on regional players to attend this event given the current state of uncertainty, in addition to the governments recommendation to suspend unnecessary travel. QTF do not want players to be disadvantaged in the 2020 selection process due to the current global situation and therefore has made the decision to postpone the camps to a later date.
QTF will closely monitor the current COVID-19 situation and at this time no official date has been set. QTF remains hopeful the State of Origin competition will proceed in June; however, we are having ongoing discussions with New South Wales Touch Association (NSWTA) and it is currently ‘under review’. QTF and NSWTA will provide further details when it becomes available.
We thank you for your patience and understanding. If you have any queries, please contact the QTF team via admin@qldtouch.com.au.
