Queensland Touch Football (QTF) held its Annual General Meeting for the 2020/21 reporting period on Saturday 11 December 2021.
QTF Chairman, Troy Morgan, thanked all members, Affiliates, boards, volunteers, staff, and other key stakeholders who faced the many challenges through the year and thrived due to their hard work and resilience.
The meeting also farewelled long-serving board members, including former Chairman, Gavin Shuker and Director, Peter Tong, who finished their tenures.
Troy Morgan stated, “On behalf of the entire QLD Touch Football community, I would like to acknowledge the significant contributions of outgoing Directors, Gavin Shuker and Peter Tong.” He continued to thank the pair for their selfless contributions during their tenure, stating, “Shuker selflessly stood aside throughout the year to allow the smooth transition of the role of Chairman to myself. His ‘get things done’ attitude has been inspirational, as has Tong, whose calm demeanor, dedication, and strategic thinking will be missed by the QTF community at Board level.”
Queensland Touch Football is excited to announce Terani Inoke and David Zanette have been appointed to succeed the vacant positions on the board, following Shuker and Tong’s departure.
Inoke, a practicing solicitor, has filled the role of casual vacancy on QTF Board since June 2021 and brings a wealth of experience in the legal and community sport contexts. While Zanette, the Owner and Managing Director of ZED Electrical and DETEKD, is an elite player having represented Australia, Queensland, Cowboys, and Central Queensland over many years. The Board very much looks forward to Zanette’s contribution to touch football off the field. A third Director position remained unfilled and will be filled as a casual vacancy.
Overall participation in touch football increased by 6% in adults, while Junior participation decreased by 0.5%. Considering competitions remained impacted by COVID-19, this was a good result, and was underpinned by the hard work and resilience of our affiliates and regions, boards, volunteers, and staff. Event participation was down slightly by 6%, however, program participants, school-delivered, and school-managed competitions and programs all saw increases. Sporting Schools grew by a staggering 87% with 16,663 participants involved in one of the 213 touch football programs run in schools across Queensland.
The meeting heard, despite another year of COVID-19 disruptions, QTF reported an operating surplus of $305,896 to the membership. “This is a very pleasing result after a few very tough years. I would like to acknowledge the ongoing support of our partners, event partners, and the Queensland Government, as well as the hard work and dedication of our CEO Greg Denny and the entire QTF staff who work tirelessly for the benefit of our members and stakeholders”, Morgan stated.
Following the QTF AGM, Morgan presented an overview of the 2022-24 QTF Strategic Plan, including our mission, values, and QTF service pillars. Launched at the recent State of Origin, our QTF team values included:

Morgan acknowledged and thanked the entire QTF team for their contribution and for the enthusiasm, engagement, and commitment in developing the new Strategic Plan. “The values of the QTF team are strong, as is their commitment to our strategic pillars and initiatives. We look forward to sharing our plan over the next 12 months, and continuing to Unite, Inspire and Grow our sport into the future,” states Morgan.
