Queensland Touch Football’s Official Knowledge Partner College of Sports & Fitness has started the 2021 school year in style by launching Certificate 2 Sport and Recreation courses at Elanora State High School and Laidley State High.
Elanora students recently took their first steps towards a career in sport under the guidance of QTF Development Manager, Tristan Mana.
Students worked with their classmates to design and deliver a touch specific coaching session under Mana’s guidance and by the end of the session, students began to understand and identify what is involved in pre-session planning and delivery of that plan.
Key learnings students took from their classroom to field sessions was their ability to recognise participant skill levels, their own coaching style and how to modify and enhance the overall session with participants.
Mana said “watching the students design and execute their first coaching session for their peers created a wonderful leadership opportunity. They had all planned very well and it was exciting to see the student’s confidence in delivering touch football showcasing their personalities throughout their delivery”.
“There is a great synergy of having real-life projects wrapped into course delivery and assessment with industry participation and engagement. We can see how each student becomes confident and comfortable in conducting their sessions to junior schooling and later progressing towards sport accreditation” said Naomi Hammond, CSF trainer and program deliverer at Elanora State High.
“Working with Queensland Touch Football is valuable with the instructions they are giving the students is quite clear and precise. The skills and drills they are using are quite specific in touch football as well. Also bringing the game sets concepts are very valid in PE teaching which often gets lost. Very useful” Sharon Jones HPE / Touch Coordinator Elanora State High School.
This program is jointly endorsed by Queensland Touch Football and Touch Football Australia and provides students with VET qualifications via CSF as well as industry qualifications from Touch Football Australia.
