Following the record-breaking Junior State Cup in Redlands in 2024, the Redland Showgrounds will again welcome thousands of young athletes, families, and fans for the Junior State Cup in 2026 and 2028.
Thanks to a new multi-year agreement between Queensland Touch Football (QTF) and Redland City Council, the major junior touch football event will return to Redlands for two more successful editions.
The 2026 Junior State Cup will take place from Thursday 9 July to Saturday 11 July, marking the 30th anniversary of the event. With over 4,300 participants and more than 14,000 attendees daily, including players, referees, coaches, families, and spectators, the tournament is expected to deliver substantial economic benefits to the Redlands Coast region.
To accommodate this growth, QTF has secured additional fields for the 2026 tournament, ensuring every division gets the game time they deserve and creating a more inclusive and competitive experience.
QTF CEO, Greg Denny, said “The Junior State Cup is a cornerstone of our annual calendar, and we’re thrilled to partner with Redland City Council to bring the event to Redlands once again in 2026 and 2028. This multi-year agreement reflects our shared commitment to growing the game and delivering exceptional experiences for our junior athletes and their families. From 50 teams in 1996 to over 260 teams today, the Junior State Cup is a true celebration of grassroots sport and community.”
Redland City Mayor, Jos Mitchell, said attracting the Junior State Cup to Redlands Coast was great news for the touch football community.
“The last time the Junior State Cup was held at the Redland Showgrounds, in 2024, it attracted more than 4,000 players and officials from right across Queensland. This carnival is not only a great opportunity to identify emerging talent, but also a chance to help our young athletes develop lasting friendships and a lifelong love of sport.”
Tournaments like the Junior State Cup play an important role in junior development, offering young aspiring athletes a chance to build lifelong friendships and grow in confidence through sport.
Tamika Upton, QTF ambassador and elite rugby league player, said “Touch Football gave me my start and shaped so much of who I am as an athlete. The Junior State Cup is an incredible opportunity for young players to showcase their talent, build friendships, and fall in love with the game. I’m proud to support an event that celebrates the grassroots and inspires the next generation.”
QTF and Redland City Council invite all participants encourage families to extend their stay and explore the natural beauty of Redlands Coast, including North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), local beaches, and cultural experiences.
Details on team nominations, accommodation, and event schedules will be released on the QTF website in the coming months.
