The Countdown is on to Deliver The World’s Largest School-Based Touch Tournament On The Gold Coast
30 September 2021
The world’s largest touch football carnival for schools will now be played at its new home, the Gold Coast Performance Centre between 6 to 10 October, thanks to the support of Major Events Gold Coast.
The Gold Coast Titans All Schools Touch carnival is as the name suggests, a sporting tournament contested by senior school aged touch players, attracting female, male and mixed school teams from all corners of Queensland.
First played in 1983 between 18 teams; the 2021 event will occupy every one of the 23 fields at the world-class complex, with over 450 teams competing in more than 1700 games across five days.
Tournament Director and Founder, Peter Bell, is delighted with the new venue, “Our primary reason for relocating from our former Brisbane location was that we’d outgrown the venue, however, there are other immense benefits to calling the Gold Coast home,” Peter explained. “The facilities and opportunities for our participants and their families visiting the Gold Coast are extensive, including leisure activities, dining options, and of course the vast range of accommodation to suit schools with multiple teams, extending to our referees, other officials, and parents.”
The relocation, facilitated by Major Events Gold Coast, will ensure the carnival will be played at the magnificent Runaway Bay venue for the next three years, alongside naming rights partner, the Gold Coast Titans.
Jan McCormick, CEO of Major Events Gold Coast, suggests the city and the complex will provide well for participants of the tournament. “The Gold Coast has incredible weather and will deliver perfect playing conditions for the participants, plus has some of the best sporting facilities our nation has to offer. I am delighted to see the premier sporting facility, the Gold Coast Performance Centre, and Runaway Bay Sports Precinct being utilised for this outstanding event,” said Ms McCormick. “I wish the
organisers, officials, players, and their families a successful carnival and an enjoyable time exploring all that our magnificent region has to offer.”
The event taps off is at 7.30 am Wednesday, 6 October, with free admission for spectators to the Gold Coast Performance Centre, 1 Sports Drive, Runaway Bay.
Major Events Gold Coast are also a key partner for the upcoming Festival of Touch across various locations at the Gold Coast.
