The Queensland Touch Football (QTF) Board has unanimously elected Mathew Gilbertson, as the new Chair of the QTF Board, at the January Board Meeting.
This decision comes after the previous Chair, Troy Morgan, stepped down from the role, retiring from his post as Director and Chair, following the maximum allowable terms of service.
Mr Gilbertson is no stranger to the sport, having previously served on the Victorian, QTF and TFA Boards and more recently as long-standing Director and President of the South Queensland and Border Districts Touch Association (SQBD).
In accepting the position, Gilbertson expressed his gratitude and pledged to continue the Board’s leadership, vision, and direction to unite, inspire, and grow the sport. He praised the QTF Staff and Board for their hard work, which has led to extensive growth in participation, events, partnerships, and financials, and emphasised the Board’s commitment to maintaining momentum.
“I believe that Touch Football is the ultimate participation sport, I love it, and I feel that I’m privileged to have been able to participate in it and contribute to helping it reach more people. I’m excited to continue helping the sport in Queensland continue on the path that’s been established by QTF to date.
“I’ve seen at close hand, Queensland Touch Football evolve into a market leading organisation through the vision, enthusiasm, and dedication of the QTF Board and staff. Relationships with Member Regions and affiliates across Queensland are growing and stronger than ever. The values, strong strategic direction, and collaborative approach that the sport has embraced are leading to excellent outcomes across the sport.
It is clear to see that the entire QTF Board is united behind CEO, Greg Denny and the QTF team. This is an exciting time for QTF, as we continue to deliver our current strategic plan”.
Gilbertson has a longstanding history with the sport, where he began as a first time participant at BMTA back in 1995. Gilbertson has represented at region and state level as coach, player, and referee as well as at national level as team manager. His experience in both the sport and in boardrooms, along with his proven business acumen, make him an excellent candidate to succeed Morgan as the QTF Chair.
The QTF CEO, Greg Denny, acknowledged the contribution of Mr Morgan and the QTF Board in leading the organisation through an especially important period. He also expressed his confidence in Gilbertson’s leadership, having worked closely with him as President of SQBD.
“Troy made a significant contribution as QTF Chair and Director, and transitioning to a new Board and leadership, led by Mr Gilbertson is both important and exciting, as QTF moves into a new era.
I look forward to working closely with Mr Gilbertson and the new QTF Board in steering the organisation forward,” said Denny.
The 2023 AGM saw the election of new Directors Mark Cecil and Mathew Gilbertson, joining re-elected Directors Dennis Di Bartolo, Adam Page, and Lily Singh, and ongoing Directors Terani Inoke and Dave Zanetti.
