The State of Origin is the pinnacle of domestic touch football in Australia. Queensland Touch Football will host the 2022 State of Origin at C.ex International Stadium, Coffs Harbour on 19-20 August 2022, in partnership with Coffs Harbour City Council.
The 2022 State of Origin will be the 50th Anniversary of New South Wales Touch therefore in collaboration with Queensland Touch Football this is a very exciting and special State of Origin event.
Queensland Touch Football (QTF) and New South Wales Touch Association (NSWTA) recently announced the 2022 State of Origin Series will include full competitive Divisions in the Women’s 45 and Men’s 60s, including points accumulated for 2022 Overall SOO Champions, as well as, the inclusion of a Women’s 50s Invitational Division.
The 2022 National Touch League (NTL) was due to be the final squad selection event for all participants. Due to the unforeseen postponement of the National Touch League and cancellation of the Qld State Cup we are now required to utilise Talent Identification information from Performance & Pathway Events to support our final squad lists. In collaboration with the High-Performance Panel, SOO Advisory Panel, Coaches were required to finalise their State of Origin Squads and submit them to Queensland Touch Football Board for approval by Friday 25th March 2022.
2022 QLD State Of Origin Final Squads have now been announced. Click here for more information.
The postponement of the 2022 NTLs has forced QTF to amend the current State of Origin selection process and move the SOO selection camp dates.
QTF acknowledges that due to the new rescheduled date there are players who are unable to attend NTLs that were hoping to be observed. We will be required to utilise their previous TID history to support their inclusion in the final squad.
Following performances at the rescheduled 2022 NTLs in May, under the guidance of the High-Performance Panel and SOO Advisory Panel, a player may be added to a squad although they will have one week to pay the deposit and organise travel to the Selection Camp 2-3 weeks later. This is the most transparent process still allowing QTF and the players maximum opportunity.
We are unable to hold back naming all squads until after NTLs in May due to the short timeframe and logistical lead-up to the August event.
The Queensland State of Origin selection trials will be held over two weekends at two different locations. With a very congested calendar of events and potential clashes, the following dates have been finalised. Selection trials will be a full day Saturday and half-day Sunday.
Selection Trial 1 – Saturday 28th & Sunday 29th May 2022
Bribie Island Sports Complex
Divisions: Women’s 20s, Men’s 20s, Open Men’s, Men’s 40s, Men’s 50s, Men’s 55s, and Men’s 60s.
Selection Trial 2 – Saturday 4th & Sunday 5th June 2022
Redlands Touch Association
Divisions: Open Women’s*, Open Mixed, Senior Mixed, Women’s 27s, Women’s 35s, Women’s 40s, Women’s 45s, Men’s 30s, Men’s 35 s, Men’s 45s*, and Women’s 50s (Invitational).
(Note: *Divisions rescheduled from Trial 1).
The second trial will enable those players not selected in Trial 1 and eligible for other Divisions to be selected.
In the perfect world, everyone is fit & healthy, and we can select the final team at the selection camp with all squad players in attendance. If you are named in a Qld Squad but cannot attend the selection camp due to extenuating circumstances, we will require detailed Talent Identification Information to support your selection and reasoning for non-attendance.
In the event that the 2022 Qld State of Origin Selection Trials does not go ahead, the High-Performance Panel will collaborate with all 17 team coaches and SOO Advisory Panel on selecting the final teams based on Talent Identification information (TID).
Please also note that the Squads have been increased from 24 to 30 players to give better transparency and the opportunity to select the best team.
All players listed in the final squad must have their representative Talent Identification information listed. This will provide a frame of reference for the High-Performance Panel to make their final decision. It is understood that the Touch Football State of Origin is the highest honour available to a Queenslander and we must have a representative history showing TID information for every player selected.
Critical to this information is that the High-Performance Panel and SOO Advisory Panel will be working with every coach to select their final squads & teams. The High-Performance Panel will have the final selection decision on all players in all 17 Qld Squads.
