In a Queensland first, the inclusiveness of school sport will be on full display when Queensland Special Education Touch Football Championships (QSEC), Queensland Representative School Sport (QRSS) and Queensland Touch Football (QTF) combine – for the first time ever – in a united display of social inclusion.
Being held on Thursday 12th June 2025 at Redlands Touch Association, the annual QSEC event focuses on inclusion and participation by offering three tailored divisions and provision of adaptive equipment including Velcro vests, ball pouches, and visual communication boards ensuring every student can get involved and have fun playing touch football, regardless of their status.
“Sport should be a space where everyone feels welcome, supported, and empowered to participate, and events like QSEC bring that vision to life,” said Greg Denny, CEO of Queensland Touch Football.
This year’s event is expected to be the biggest yet, with its alignment alongside the QRSS Championships marking a milestone for inclusive sport in Queensland. The move sets a new standard, as touch football becomes the first sport integrated into the QRSS’s state-wide inclusive program.
“Running these events side-by-side means we get to showcase the true reach and adaptability of touch football,” said Katie Geiger, QTF Game Development Manager and QSEC Event Lead.
“It’s the only sport where you’ll see a 60-year-old and a 13-year-old play together — and the same is true for all abilities.”
QSEC is completely free to attend for students and schools, with Queensland Touch Football investing directly in participation to remove cost barriers and ensure accessibility across our state.
“We know how important this opportunity is for students in special education,” Katie continued.
“We all learn differently, and the QSEC divisions are designed so that all students can grow, learn, and have fun in a space that works for them.”
The atmosphere on the day is hard to describe for those who haven’t been before — full of laughter, teamwork, and high-fives from every corner of the field.
“You won’t find an event that draws as much pure joy as QSEC,” Katie said. “We’re so excited for even more people to witness that this year.”
As Queensland Touch Football continues to deliver a clear pathway for grassroots players to the elite level, including supporting the bid for inclusion at the 2032 Brisbane Olympics, QSEC serves as a powerful reminder of our sport’s heart: community.
“Participation-focused events like QSEC are essential to the long-term success of our sport,” said Greg.
“They help build strong foundations and remind us that sport can and should be for everyone.” For more information or to register your school’s interest for QSEC 2026, visit https://qldtouch.com.au/qsec/or contact Lilli Leahy at admin@qldtouch.com.au
