This Saturday marks the first round of the inaugural Community Cup to be contested between the communities of Wandoan, Taroom, Miles and Wallumbilla in South West Queensland in the divisions of under 10’s and under 15’s mixed.  These 4 communities will come together over the next 8 weeks to play a round robin series on a home and away basis every second week to give the kids in these drought stricken rural areas the opportunity to have some fun and play some social Touch Football.

QLD Touch Football (QTF) Development Officer, Terry McSweeney said: “I attend a lot of junior events and competitions and enjoy them all and what they offer to our juniors as far as participation, competition and development but I am really looking forward to the Community Cup as it will give kids from regional Queensland the opportunity to play Touch Football in a competition format that would not normally be offered due to their geography.  Wallumbilla and Taroom are around 5 to 6 hours west of Brisbane and with the great support of QLD Touch and South West Queensland Touch, this event no doubt will be well received and supported by the local communities.”

The first round of the series will be held on Saturday the 26th of October at the Lindsay Williams Oval in Wandoan from 9am. The day will start with a skills clinic followed by a round robin format of games. There will be a BBQ and canteen available on the day so come along and support the teams.
