It was a windy few days at the start of the Queensland Touch Football 2019 Junior State Championships, but that didn’t stop all the on and off-field action!

The host region Central Queensland (CQ) Bulls dominating Day 1 and 2, appearing in all finals on Day 3 of the three-day tournament. South Queensland Border Districts (SQBD) hoped to defend their 7-year reign as Champion Region however, there was no stopping the Central Queensland Bulls, who won the Shuker-Williams Trophy claiming the 2019 title ‘Champion Region’.

The level of competition has increased from last year with outstanding football played throughout the tournament from all six regions. It has been pleasing to see the high level of coaching which has been obvious across all players in the event.

The Under 12 Boys and Girls Merit Teams were announced at the completion of the tournament and are listed below.

The boys and girls Junior Cowboys, Junior Broncos and Junior Titans Youth Teams in the Under 14 and 16 age groups, will be announced in the coming week. These teams are selected in collaboration with the coaches of each team and acknowledge the effort, commitment and sportsmanship these players have shown to their regions.

The selected players will be invited to attend a youth academy to further enhance their skills in the sport of touch football.

Congratulations to our Referees of the tournament and to those who have been selected in our JETS Referee Program for 2019. The JETS program identifies young referees that demonstrate the ability to become one of Queensland’s best referees. The objective of the program is to provide a structured pathway for young referees to achieve their goals with the help of coaching and support from other referees, coaches, players and mentors.

We would like to thank our sponsors for their support Optus, DSA Images, Inferno, fisiocrem, Steeden, All Sports Travel, and the Bundaberg Touch Association for their continued assistance with the event and the Bundaberg Regional Council for their support.

A huge thank you to all affiliates, teams, players, coaches, referees and volunteers for your contribution to this event does not go unnoticed.
