Queensland Touch Football is proud to announce that the 2020 Queensland State Cup will be supported by Tourism Events Queensland and its Queensland’s Destination Events Program, a program focused on fostering regional tourism and economic development.

Based on the Gold Coast, the Queensland State Cup is a three-day tournament that provides senior touch football players the chance to represent their Queensland Affiliate in a state-level competition and play against some of the best touch football players in the world.

It is not only the high calibre of players and competition that is a drawcard to the event, but the Gold Coast is the perfect getaway. With some of the world’s most pristine beaches, beautiful hinterlands, and exciting theme parks right on the doorstep, participants can take part in so much more than just a touch football tournament.

Tourism Minister Kate Jones said events like the 2020 Queensland State Cup would play an important role in the state’s economic recovery.

“Events like this pump thousands of dollars back into the local businesses, support local jobs and help to rebuild our economy,” Ms Jones said.

“This event will deliver a great boost for local businesses at a time when everyone is doing it tough.

“The Gold Coast is one of the most beautiful places in the world to visit and the Queensland State Cup gives visitors another reason to book a trip.

“Only the Palaszczuk Government has a plan to rebuild our economy and create local jobs. Events like this that support local businesses and local jobs are crucial to that strategy.”

The event is open to male and female participants aged 15 to 60+ years of age and caters to all abilities including social mixed teams and a Touch Football Specialised division.

“Last year’s QLD State Cup was pretty special, but participants should be ready for an even better experience at this year’s event,” said Greg Denny, QLD Touch Football’s Interim CEO.

“Having the support of the Queensland Government via Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program funding allows us to take the event to the next level and provides the perfect opportunity for our touch community to reconnect and enjoy playing the sport they love after what has been a challenging year.”

Queensland Touch Football is dedicated to providing a safe environment for all players and spectators. The event complies with a Queensland Government approved Industry COVID Safe Plan – Field Sports and will have COVIDSafe preventative measures in place throughout the event.

Team entries into this year’s QLD State Cup will open early September 2020.

This event also kicks off the first of many events that are included in Queensland Touch Football’s Festival of Touch on the Gold Coast.
